Party Ideas - Halloween Theme

These days, many parents are concerned about their children going out trick-or-treating. A great alternative is to have a neighborhood Halloween party. Done with imagination and creativity, these can be an alternative not only every bit as much fun, but much safer than the door to door trick or treating you might have done in the past.

Try to enlist the help of other parents who want a safe, but fun, alternative for their own children, to provide adequate supervision. Keep in mind that, to keep children entertained and occupied, you must provide more than treats. Games, contests, and activities are important as well.

Party Food

Make your own Halloween Punch to really set the mood.

It doesn't really matter what's in this, you could even make an adult version with some rum or tequila. Just don't get the two mixed up!

Preparation is key with this one. A couple of days before the party fill some non-toxic plastic gloves with water or juice, tie a knot at the end and freeze - fresh orange juice and a drop of blue food colouring works well for green slime/ blackcurrant is good for blood.

Add your ingredients to the punch bowl, decorate with gummy worms and spooky spiders and add the frozen 'dismembered hands' when the guests arrive for an easy but impressive centrepiece.

To make these either buy a cookie-mix from the supermarket or use our cookie recipe.

Next, cut your cookie dough into spooky shapes (ghosts, bats or pumpkins are the easiest to decorate) and cook as per the recipe. Check out Amazon.co.uk for a good selection of halloween cookie cutters.

Lastly, the fun bit. Make up some royal icing and let your imagination run riot!

If you've got some time on your hands you may want to try making individual pumpkin jellies.

To make these, buy enough satsumas for each child at the party (you can use tangerines, clementines etc. but the easier to peel the better). Cut the tops off and lay them aside, then scrape out the pulp with a teaspoon - you can use the juice in the halloween punch!.

Then, simply make up some jelly as per the directions and pour it into the hollowed out fruit

Put the jellies in the fridge, and when they are set you can draw on scary, pumpkin faces with a non-toxic marker. Replace the tops and you're all set.

For an easier option, forget the jelly and just draw scary faces on the whole satsumas!

Make some Spooky Sandwiches.

Everything's more appealing when it looks interesting, so transform your sandwiches from conventional to creepy by cutting them into spooky shapes using your cookie cutters.
